This week’s Weekly Geeks event is about magazines.

WG asks:

For each magazine you want to talk about, here are a few questions. Answer as many or as few as you want.

1. Name of magazine.
2. Do you subscribe or just buy it now and then?
3. What’s your favorite regular feature in the magazine?
4. What do you think your interest in this magazine says about you?
5. How long have you been reading this magazine?
6. Is there any unique or quirky aspect to the magazine that keeps you reading?

CHATELAINE Magazine
~ I subscribe to Chatelaine, and have for a couple of years. I enjoy it because it’s Canadian, and the content is aimed at women. The beauty tips are helpful, and the book page is always a favorite. ;) I think my reading this magazine just points to the fact that I’m a thirty-something Canadian woman who likes to find out how to care for her home and family.

LOG HOME LIVING Magazine ~ This is my “guilty pleasure” magazine… I don’t usually read the articles in it, but just look at the pictures, dream, and drool. LOL. It’s my absolute favorite magazine!

I had a subscription to LOG HOME LIVING, but couldn’t afford to renew it when it came time to do so — big-time bummer! But, I hope to subscribe to it again, some time.

My favorite part of this magazine are the floor-plans… and the pictures, of course. I’ve always loved Log Homes, but I now know I don’t want to live in one ((I have a friend who lives in a log home, and she says the upkeep is tremendous)). I would like a Timber Frame style home, though — lots of wood accents, but still a “regular” home.

I don’t know what my reading this magazine says about me… maybe that I’m a dreamer? That I have expensive tastes? LOL. P

PAGES Magazine ~ This was my all-time favorite “bookish” magazine, and I had high hopes of one day subscribing to it… but, when I finally had the money to do so, I was sorely disappointed to find that they’d gone bankrupt, and the magazine was no longer being published. (

I loved reading about all of the new books, and that every single advertisement was about books or book-related things! I’ve read the other “bookish” magazine, BOOKMARKS, and it just wasn’t the same… it’s not as good as “PAGES“, in my humble opinion.

My reading of this magazine said that I am a bibliophile. I don’t think it needs to say more than that! LOL.

BETTER HOMES & GARDENS Magazine ~ This is a magazine I read because my Mom always did. Originally, I had no interest in it. But, then I checked a copy of this magazine out of the library, one day (recently), and found that I really enjoyed the articles, and all of the housekeeping tips! LOL. So, now I’ve become my mother, and I really like to read BH&G Magazine. LOL. ((I think that sums up both why I like it, and what it says about me!))

My favorite parts of this one are the housekeeping tips, and the featured “diet”.

SELF Magazine ~ I occasionally read this magazine. If the topics on the cover catch my eye, while I’m scanning the magazines in the grocery store checkout, I’ll sometimes buy it and bring it home to flip through. I like the articles on weight-loss, and on strength-training. And, admittedly, I like to look at the pictures… I look longingly at the skinny, fit women, and wish I could look like them. I know — very sad. LOL.

My reading this one says I have an interest in my health and fitness … and maybe that I’m a little vain. -?

WOMEN’S HEALTH Magazine ~ I only recently discovered that I like this magazine. I was browsing the magazine section in Wal-Mart, and picked up a copy of this magazine. The articles on getting fit struck a chord with me. I didn’t buy the magazine, but I did go home and go to the website, and from there I ordered a FREE “trial copy”. I ended up getting 3 trial copies in the mail — which was cool! — and really enjoyed browsing through.

I can’t say I have any particular favorites in this one. Again, I like to look at the pictures. ;) But, I did like that these magazines are just jam-packed with information for the health-conscious!

RUNNER’S WORLD Magazine ~ This, too, is a new interest for me. Earlier this year, I got it into my head that I’d like to take up running. So — like I did with the WOMEN’S HEALTH Magazine — I went to the website and requested a free trial copy of RW Magazine.

I found the articles on how-to to be the most interesting. And, the tips were helpful, too (like how to choose the right running shoes). Mostly I was interested in the mechanics of how to become a runner / how to start out with running.

So, there you have it. I know that’s a lot, but those are all of the magazines that I have an interest in. I’m sure there are more, acutally, but this post has already gotten long enough, so I won’t bore you by continuing. ;)
