Faith ‘n Fiction Saturday: What would you recommend?
(Faith ‘n Fiction Saturdays are hosted by Amy!)
This week’s post asks two questions:
You have a good friend who is a devoted Christian and voracious reader. He or she, however, tried to read a Christian fiction book in the past and found it to be too preachy and unrealistic. Your friend wants to try it again and has asked you for a recommendation. Their favorite genre of book is what is considered literary fiction. What book would you recommend to them?
You also have a friend who is not a Christian but wants to read fiction that is considered clean without being too Christian. They have asked you if there are Christian fiction books that might meet their reading needs. They are interested in romance and novels. What book would you recommend to them?
Well, for the voracious reader who prefers Christian “literary fiction”, I suppose I might recommend Karen Kingsbury (“On Every Side“), or Linda Nichols (“Not a Sparrow Falls“). Not really sure.
For someone who doesn’t want “preachy” but definitely wants romance, I’d for sure recommend Julie Klassen’s “Lady of Milkweed Manor“. It was perfect!
I’m sure I’ll think of more, but for now, that’s all I’ve got.

Thanks for the recommendations. I’m not a romance book fan but the other two I’ll check out. Hey you made your own Faith & Fiction button up – looks cool!

Romance is not my favorite genre either, and in fact, I think that Kingsbury’s books ARE romance! Of course an non-Christian would probably not like them. Happy Faith ‘n Fiction Day. Here’s my answer:

Lady of Milkweed Manor? It sounds gothic. Is it?

Kingsbury is a good one to recommend. How about Dee Henderson. Her O’malley series was good without being too ‘christian’ and the romances were very clean.
great choices! I’ll be checking them out too!

Oh, I LOVED Klassen’s book!!! Good choice! Haven’t read that particular book of Karen’s or Linda’s books either. Thanks for the suggestions!

I agree that it’s hard to think of Christian literary fiction! That’s why I asked the question.
Loved Milkweed Manor! Will have to check out Not A Sparrow Falls. I have liked the few books by Linda Nichols that I’ve read.
Bluestocking — No, Lady of Milkweed Manor isn’t “gothic” at all! It’s a Christian regency romance (set in the 1800s), and it’s about a gal who is a bit rebellious and finds herself in a predicament.
It was quite “out of the box” for Christian fiction, so I totally loved it!
