BTT: Storage
Today’s post (suggested by Kat) asks:
“How do you arrange your books on your shelves? Is it by author, by genre, or you just put it where it falls on?”
My books aren’t necessarily arranged in any sort of order, really. Well, they are, kind of…
I used to have all of my books just randomly on my bookshelves… the only sort of “organization” was that my Classics were all in one cupboard.
Recently, though, I tried to organize a bit more. I put all of my Christian titles into one bookshelf, and all of my secular titles into another. Mind you, not everything fit into those two shelves, so there’s still some randomness to my bookshelves. And, this doesn’t even cover all of the books that I have to keep in Rubbermaid totes outside in the garage, since there isn’t room in the house for them all!
My Classics are still in their cupboard. And, my library books are all up on the top of the one bookshelf near my bed.
Someday, though — when I have a room JUST for my books — I hope to actual organize my books, properly… alphabetically by author, and maybe by genre, too.

Yes, I know all about those Rubbermaid totes filled with overflow! Ours aren’t in the garage, just because we don’t have a garage. But we’ve got three storage rooms and all three have boxes and boxes of books.
I guess I am waiting for that someday, too. My someday will include not having five children under ten around to mess up my attempts to organize.
Where I live a book in a garage means mold. Since I can’t have that, my response is here:

Ah yes, the rubber maid totes. We have a couple of those in the garage as well as a few boxes in the closet. I look forward to the day (if it ever happens) that I have a true library room. Dreams!
I am not organized at all, used to be but now my book shelf is messy, lol.
I could never organize by genre just because I’m terrible at categorizing books. But I find a lot of people today do just that. I admire them for doing something so difficult.
Doesn’t everyone want a room just for their books!!
I’m an author and/or genre organizer.
Claire ~ If I ever did decide to organize by genre, I’d totally use LibraryThing.com to do it! You can click a button, and it does all the hard stuff for you! Then all I’d have to do is look at the screen to know what order to put my books in! (same with if I did it alphabetically, etc!) LOL. I’m such a cheater! LOL.
