The Sunday Salon (Feb.22)
I am sick of snow. Yesterday we got walloped with the stuff again, and I’m really just ready for it to be gone… I want the Springtime! No more cold, no more mess, no more snow!!!
Okay. Sorry. Rant over. Back to books!
I am currently still reading “The Stones” by Eleanor Gustafson. But, I’ve set it aside temporarily, as my other review book — “Fixing Abraham” by Chris Tiegreen — is due for a blog tour first (and it’s a shorter book than “The Stones“, so I’ll finish it first). Here’s the blurb from the back of “Fixing Abraham“:
“How would you have reacted if Abraham told you that God said to sacrifice his son? Would you have honored him as a champion of the faith? Or would you have backed away slowly and referred him to the nearest counselling facility?
If actual biblical characters walked into our lives, we might now know how to handle them. Is it possible we’ve created a safe, tidy Christian culture that too often holds back from embracing the complete truth of God’s character — and those of His people? Imagine what we might say to help “fix” some of our Bible heroes…
RUTH: “Not even a hint of immorality, Ruth. You know better than to think God might want you to throw yourself at a guy’s feet in the middle of the night!”
ISAIAH: “God told you to go naked for three years?!!!”
PAUL: “You’re way too intense, and it turns people off. Haven’t you noticed that your personality always seems to divide people and create controversy?”
In ‘Fixing Abraham’, acclaimed writer Chris Tiegreen provides a fresh introduction to the biblical heroes you thought you knew. In the process, you’ll be challenged to break free of formulaic Christianity and open your eyes to the wild and holy ways of God.”
This book, so far, has been really, really good! I’m loving the points the author is making, and look forward to writing a review afterward! You’ll be able to check out the blog tour for this book on March 3rd over at MizB’s Book Reviews (my other blog)… that blog tour will also include a free sneak peek at the first chapter!
Anyhoo. Another book I’m currently reading is one that came from the local library: “Do You Think I’m Beautiful?” by Angela Thomas. This book looks at the deepest longing of a woman’s heart — to know that she’s wanted, pursued, and thought ‘beautiful’. My longtime friend recommend this book to me, and said it was a really good one if you wanted to know more about God’s love for us.
Up and coming, in my reviewing/reading queue, are books like “10 Things I Hate About Christianity” by Jason T. Berggren, “The Fight of Your Life” by Jeffrey Dean, and “Apologetics for a New Generation” by Sean McDowell.

I feel for you with all that snow. It would get on my nerves too. I hate being cold.
This was my first Sunday Salon stop of the morning and I’m glad. I was saying to myself that I wanted to find some books to help deepen my Bible study, and you’ve given me several to look for. Thanks!
I’m definitely ready for winter to be over but it doesn’t feel like it is going to happen any time soon. We just got a few more inches of snow here as well and while my son was thrilled I wasn’t. Do You Think I’m Beautiful? sounds very interesting!
