Musing Mondays (March 23)
(Musing Mondays are hosted by Rebecca!)
This week’s question asks:
How many bookstores do you frequent? Do you have a favourite? If so, which one and what makes it so?
I really only visit a handful of stores, normally. There’s the main chain store, Chapters, and then there’s the goodwill store’s “library” (where all books are only $0.50). Of course, there’s also the stores like Wal-Mart and Zellers and The Bargain Shop, and even the grocery store. All of these places have book sections, too, and I can’t help but go look every time I’m in one of these stores.
But, usually, when I’m buying books, I do it online, via Chapters.ca. For browsing, I use the above. But, for buying, I shop online. Chapters.ca just has more of what I want than the actual store, most of the time, and they’re a bit cheaper, too… not more so than that goodwill store, mind you. But, cheaper than the actual Chapters store, or any other *actual* bookstore around here.
There’s a small used-book store that I’m still dying to visit. But, I just haven’t had a chance, yet. Everyone tells me it’s great! I can’t wait to get a chance to go see it some time.

I don’t have a current favorite bookstore — in an ideal world, it’d be a cozy indie. But in the real world, I shop B&N because that’s all we have.
I shop at three bookstores. I use Borders, because it’s nearby, to run in and pick up a paperback or gift. I use Amazon for myself when it’s something expensive, and I can get a good discount. But, my favorite bookstore is an independent one, Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ. It’s stuffed with crime novels, nonfiction and magazines. And, best of all, it hosts wonderful mystery authors when they’re on tour. I’ve seen authors such as Lee Child, Linda Fairstein, Marcia Muller & Bill Pronzini there. It’s a half an hour to 45 minute drive, depending on traffic, so I don’t just drop in. But, it’s my favorite.

I love used bookstores. I’d love to own one someday
Me, too, Stacybuckeye! I have always held the dream in my head of being an indy-bookstore owner.
I even have a name all picked out, and can visualize it in my head.
my answer is nearly the same as yours. we had some fun little bookstores in town before the advent of Wal-mart. Drat the big box!
My favourite is Waterstones, there’s a coffee shop too .
Yeah, Chapters (the brick-and-mortar store) has a Starbucks Coffee shop attached, so you can sip & read, if you like that kinda thing. Personally, I’m not a fan of Starbucks… but then, I’m not a coffee-drinker, either. LOL.
Our Goodwill just expanded, so I need to go and check out their book selection.
I’ve never thought to check out the Goodwill. We have a B&N, Walden Books, and Used Bookstore. I wish that there was an Indie store closer to my hometown because I would shop there too!!
I love, love, love little independents . . . two of my favorites are Auntie’s Bookstore and Powell’s Bookstore, both located in the Northwest. Too bad I am no longer in that area!! I haven’t been able to find anything comparable since!
Thankfully, they are both online so I can still get my fix!!
