BTT: Windfall
This week’s Booking Through Thursday post asks:
Yesterday, April 15th, was Tax Day here in the U.S., which means lots of lucky people will get refunds of over-paid taxes.
Whether you’re one of them or not, what would you spend an unexpected windfall on? Say … $50? How about $500?
(And, this is a reading meme, so by rights the answer should be book-related, but hey, feel free to go wild and splurge on anything you like.)
I’m in Canada, so I’m getting no such “windfall”, but I’ll play along, anyway! These kinds of questions are always fun.
If I got an unexpected $50, I’d probably go online to Chapters.ca, and buy myself some books from my wishlist. Or, maybe I’d just buy some books that have recently been featured in my Friday Finds event, as they’re the newest ones to catch my eye.
But, hey… if I came into more money — like $500 — I’d have to only spend part of it on books, as I’ve been wishing for a treadmill for quite a while now (I’m saving up for one, actually, but haven’t gotten very far in that endeavor).
What books would I buy? Well, a couple that have been on my wishlist for a while (both hardcovers, so not usually my first choice when I only have a little bit of money to spend) are “Garfield at 25: In Dog Years I’d Be Dead” by Jim Davis (I’m a ‘Garfield’ collector/fan), and “Library: An Unquiet History” by Matthew Battles. I also love residential design books by Sarah Susanka and those aren’t cheap, either — better known as “coffee table books”. Mind you, I think I’ve got almost all of her books, already, so I might have to look for something new.

My husband would probably shoot me if I brought as many books into this house as $500 could buy, anyway, so it’s probably a good thing that I wouldn’t spend all of that (imaginary) windfall on books. LOL.
I’d have to buy new bookshelves, too — and probably pay to add a room onto the house for my ‘library’, as I just don’t have the space for many more, as it is.
Ah well. Nice to dream.
Edited to add: LOL. After reading most of the other BTT participants’ responses, I have to laugh at everyone being so practical (saying they’d spend the money on bills, or donating to charity, or something…). Here, I thought we were supposed to DREAM! Of course, if I actually got a windfall, I’d probably HAVE to spend it on bills first… but, since this is just imaginary, then I’m free to imagine that I also don’t have any financial worries, and that the money can be spent on books and the like.
LOL. Silly people!

Bookshelves was part of my BTT answer as well… have a great day!
I love Garfield, too. In fact, I live in Indiana, as does Jim Davis, AND my cousins live in Muncie, his home town. I don’t think they’ve ever met him, though.
lol… Imaginary is good
You’ll not hear “pay bills” or “savings account” on my BTT post today
I suppose you did not read my response!
let the windfall fall on my head
I’d pick books and another shelf or a vacation!
Gautami — sure I did! It was a great poem!
sometimes . . . reality is our dream
I’m booking thru Thursday here
Hey, when is Canada’s tax day.
Windfall
I picked bookshelves and books too.
No idea, Bluestocking… LOL. That’s my husband’s “chore” — do the taxes.
I like what you wrote before the amendment: we don’t have to think charity all of the time…
I am also an impractical dreamer so don’t feel bad. And you can read on that treadmill too, can’t you?
Now that you mention it, those pair of teak bookshelves I’ve had my eye on would be a good windfall purchase. Off to dream.
hahaha so agree on Edited to add I know if I have that windfall I most likely spend it on daily needs but it’s a dream so let’s dream it!!
I’ll spend on books by my fav writters
I would be practical and save it….but to spend 500 would be such a dream, or a trip to Ireland, would pay the plane
We actually got a ´windfall´ a few weeks ago.
We have planned a holiday in Scotland for the five of us this summer, however, so we saved them.
And I´d better not even begin thinking of how many second-hand crime novels I could have bought.
