The Sunday Salon: De-slumping

April 19, 2009

sundaysalon31LOL. I don’t know if “de-slumping” is a word (or can be used as one), but I’m leaving it! LOL. It’s the best description I can give in one word. :P

This week I’ve already finished 2 books, and am on my way to finishing a 3rd. I read “From Clutter to Clarity” by Nancy Twigg, and “Feeding Your Appetites” by Stephen Arterburn. I guess the way to get out of my reading slump was to find a topic I was currently passionate about, and then read about it! LOL. I’ve been on a decluttering spree (at least in my  head, so far! LOL), and so reading “From Clutter to Clarity” was what I needed to finally get through another book. “Feeding Your Appetites” was about overcoming “addictions”, so –in reading it with the hopes of overcoming my overeating– it was another that helped me to read it quickly and finish. ;)

Now I’m working my way through “Blankets” by Craig Thompson. When I first brought it home from the library, the size was intimidating. I’d had no idea it was going to be so massive! (592 pages) And, I’ve never read a graphic novel before, so I was a little unsure of whether I would really read it. I almost took it back to the library, unread. But, then I skimmed through it, and found out that it had a lot of religious content — something else I hadn’t expected! — so I decided to give it a try. And, then I read 2/3′s of it last night alone! LOL.

It’s more of a “graphic” graphic novel than I thought it’d be — a little disturbing — but the story is good, so I’m gonna continue with it. ;) I mean, you can’t read two-thirds of a near-600-page book and then just put it down, right?

Anyhoo. I had 3 new books come to me, in the mail, this week! All three are review books: “Crossed Wires” by Rosy Thornton, “Nothing But Trouble” by Susan May Warren, and “City of the Dead” by T. L. Higley. I’m looking forward to reading all three!

I also have 2 other review books waiting to be read, too: “Sweet Waters” by Julie Carobini, and “Sunnyside Blues” by Mary Carter. I may leave the latter for last, though (out of all of the above review books), as it isn’t being published until July.

SO, here’s to a great week of reading! :D

  1. I like the idea of de-cluttering and I need to lose weight, so the first two books sound just right for me. I’m not too sure about reading a graphic novel – the ones I’ve seen in the library looked a bit boring. I’ll look out for Blankets.

I read and enjoyed a Rosy Thornton book last year, so I hope her new one is just as good.

  2. I wish ‘the fairies’ would declutter/deslump my spare room, I am promising myself to get in there this week, it is full of books, and more books. They need tidying and stacking…

  3. I think “de-slumping” is a great word. I need to “de-clutter” too.

    Happy Sunday!

  4. Oh, your post is so on time for me. I’m currently trying to de-clutter on both fronts. Picked up weight during the winter and I’m a packrat.

I’m going to add these titles to my tbr pile.

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
