FnFS: Funny!

July 25, 2009

Faith_Fiction2This week’s question asks:

I always think there’s a lack of books that are genuinely funny, that make me laugh through the book. It’s probably why I so enjoy chick lit. But Christian chick lit lacks that light natural feeling humor and so there aren’t many books (apart from Josey and Theodora!) that make me laugh.

Tell Us: Are there some good Christian fiction books that made you laugh out loud and just feel really good about life? I can’t wait to hear your recommendations.

Honestly, I don’t really remember. I’m sure Susan May Warren’s “Everything’s Coming Up Josey” probably had me laughing out loud. That was a great book. :D

Okay… I went back through my lists of books read in recent years, and here’s what I’ve come up with. Keep in mind, my memory is really fuzzy on this point, so I may be wrong. But, these are the books that I think probably had me laughing out loud:

  • Savannah From Savannah” by Denise Hildreth (almost positive this one did!)
  • Scandalous Grace” & “Radical Forgiveness” by Julie Ann Barnhill (nonfiction, but I KNOW these ones had me in stitches!)
  • Talk of the Town” by Lisa Wingate

Hmmm… In 4 years, that’s all I can come up with! I think I read too many “serious” books! LOL. What is wrong with this picture? Maybe I need to purposely hunt down some funnier books, and lighten the load a bit, eh?

I have always wanted to read Talk of the Town, just never got around to it. You are not the only one that can’t remember in recent years funny book, I know I have read them I just can’t think of them..lol.

  2. Well that’s a longer list than mine! True it seems there could be more humor in Christian lit, eh? Got my answser up too, at- http://tr.im/u0ND

    The Old Silly

  3. Interesting question. I don’t remember any christian lit with humor in it except for maybe Jan Karon’s Mitsford series. I’ve read a few secular romances with lots of humor.

  4. Oh yeaahhhhh!!! I loved Everything’s Coming Up Josey, it was hilarious! Happy you brought that book up as I completely forgot I had it…need to go back and read it again LOL!! Great post!

  5. Oh, dear. I just read your list and went to amazon and order $50 worth of Lisa Wingate’s books. I really need to stop reading book blogs.

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
