Musing Mondays (July 27)
This week, Rebecca asks:
Do you have an account with an online book database site (LibraryThing, Shelfari, GoodReads etc)? If so, do you have a preference? Do you use it for – your own record keeping? finding new books to read? social networking?
I have accounts set up with all three: LibraryThing.com, GoodReads, and Shelfari. But, personally, my favorite is definitely LibraryThing (LT).
LT was the first I signed up for, so maybe that’s why I’m biased. I mean, I love the little “virtual bookshelf” widget available through Shelfari. And, I enjoy the community on GoodReads. But, I just have found LT to be the simplest, easiest to use, and the most “neat”. I also love their “Early Reviewers” program.
I’ve used LT for my personal database (record keeping) even though I already have a database set up on my computer. I love knowing that, even if I lost my own (home) files, I’d still have that online database saved for me. I tend to keep my LT account more up-to-date than my personal database, anyway, too.
I also love that I can access my LT account from other places, so if I’m –say– at my Dad’s, and want to show them some of my books, I can just pull it up. And, even better still, I can show anyone my collection just by sending them a link! ((and, yes, that’s my link! LOL)).
Sometimes I use LT for finding new books to read, but not often. I like Facebook.com‘s “Virtual Bookshelf” program better, for that; or Amazon.com, or fellow book bloggers, or my library’s online catalogue, etc.
As for social networking, that’s why I love blogging. That is my social network.

I also have accounts with all three, but I am a GoodReads gal all the way
Here is my answer.
I have Shelfari and Library Thing. But now I use Delicious Library Here is mine mine
another vote for Library Thing here.
I agree, I find it the easiest and ‘neatest’.
I signed up with all three but rarely use them. I have to agree that LT is the easiest though.
blogging is my social network too. my musings
I’ve used all but Library Thing. Maybe it’s time for me to check it out!
I look forward to reading all the responses. I have a Good Reads account and whatever is on Facebook. I use the FB one most because I’m there and think of it, but I don’t do any of them consistently. Maybe if I stuck to one site, I’d follow through.
sounds scary
