The Sunday Salon: Book Junkie
This week was definitely more relaxing — not so many days at work. So, I got more reading done. But, not a lot…
I finished reading “The Year of Living Biblically” by A. J. Jacobs, and really enjoyed that. And, then started into Irene Hannon’s “An Eye for An Eye“. It’s pretty good, so far.
Anyhoo… the reason I titled this post the way I did is because I’ve realized that I really am a “book junkie”. I can’t seem to help myself where books are concerned! LOL. The other day, I got an email from Bookcloseouts.com saying they were having a huge sale ~ and their Religious/Inspirational books were 50% off (sale ends Sept.21st)! Well, I knew I shouldn’t have even looked… but, look I did; through all 29 pages! LOL. And, sure enough, I put 4 books in my virtual shopping cart! LOL. (Actually, I originally had 6 books in there, but I couldn’t justify buying that many, so I put 2 back).
Anyway. Out of the 4 books I did order, 3 were on my wishlist already, and the other one just sounded very intriguing. What were these, you ask?
- “Googling God” by John Cox
- “Technical Virgin” by Hayley DiMarco
- “Nutrition and Health in the Bible” by Kathleen O’Bannon (the “new-to-me” one)
- “Chasing Skinny Rabbits” by Dr. John Trent
I can’t wait until these arrive! Should be soon, as I’ve already gotten the shipping confirmation email.
Yay!
Until then, I’m quite busy with other reading! I need to finish “An Eye for An Eye” within the next couple of days, as it’s due for a blog tour for Revell. Then there are two library books due back before October 1st: “Such a Pretty Fat” by Jen Lancaster, and “Dead Until Dark” by Charlaine Harris.
After that, I still have 9 review books to read for the month of October (almost all of which are blog tour books with deadlines). So, I’ll be busy-busy! And, that’s not even taking into account that I still have to go to work, and my sister’s wedding (which I’m standing up in) is in 4 weeks, and book club has now begun again (our meeting this past week was great: see here for the list of books we chose!), and Bible study is starting up this coming week! LOL. Yep ~ I’ll be very busy! But, we’ll just take it one day at a time.

If you liked Year of Living Biblically, you need to add The Guinea Pig Diaries to your wishlist. Loved it.
Thanks, Deb! I’ve already looked into that one, actually, and it does sound interesting!

Oh my word! You really should wait to post about these sales until after they’re over! LOL! I of course had to go check it out and probably got a little carried away! But man, how can you beat paying $3 for 3-books-in-1? Got some Steve Arterburn books, Gordon MacDonald, Charles Stanley, had me some fun
That is so funny! I posted about the same thing yesterday. I guess we’re all hopeless when it comes to accumulating books.
LOL… So, you can then imagine my excitement over the fact that the local library moved their annual Book Sale to October 3rd, instead of the usual 3rd Saturday in October. Here I was thinking I’d have to miss it this year, due to being in my sister’s wedding on the 3rd Saturday… but, now I can still go, ’cause it’s early this year! Yippee!!!

I was at our church Barn Sales (think gigantic garage sale) and managed to resist the urge to buy any of the books. It was hard, but I decided I’d really need it to be a fabulous find to add it to the overflowing shelves. And there was nothing fabulous!
I think you’d like Financial Purity, which is about managing money, managing debt, building finances, etc., using a faith-based approach. The author believes money, when managed by God’s design, can help build financial wealth on a solid foundation. It’s money management for all ages, even children (who need to know how to manage it, that’s for sure.)
Thanks, Liz. I do have a couple of Dave Ramsey books… just a matter of reading them.

I completely understand THAT problem! I have heard great things about Dave Ramsey, as well.
