Musing Mondays (Sept.21)

September 21, 2009

MusingMondays3_blank This week, Rebecca asks:

Do you listen to music while reading? Does this change if you’re reading in or out of your house? Do you have a preference of music for such occasions?

I don’t normally listen to music while reading (at home, or otherwise) as I find it too distracting. I love music, so even if it were Classical (something with no lyrics), I’d still get distracted, as I tend to really get into it.

I listen to music while doing dishes / cleaning house, and I used to listen to music while doing my homework for school. But, I can’t read and listen to music at the same time.

Perhaps my inability to stay focused while listening to audiobooks ties into this somehow, too? LOL.

  1. I agree. If you want to wander down my road I’m home.

  2. I have your ‘Classical (something with no lyrics)’ on while I write. I wouldn’t say I listen to it, but for some reason it soothes me, shuts the world out, and perhaps blots up other thoughts that interfere with my writing. I don’t really admit this to genuinely knowledgeable classical music lovers as I guess they would count it as music abuse.

  3. TV disturbs me, but classical music with no lyrics is fine and makes me relax.

  4. I agree that most music without lyrics, including classical, I find distracting while reading…but I found the perfect answer!

  5. Maybe that is why audio books aren’t so hot w/me. I just find my thoughts wandering… so I usually listen while exercising. I do hit rewind a lot. Ha~ha!

    Here’s mine:

  6. I love the quiet when I read, it lets me take every word in!

  7. I have never heard of listening to music while you read. But, I love peace and quiet. I rarely even listen to music when doing my everyday hum drum. I’m a poor audio learner, so I only listen to audio books on road trips, when I can put my mind on auto pilot.

I don’t like to do much without something in the background. Although I have been trying to do my homework without music lately. Still, when I’m reading for pleasure, I listen to music. It helps me get more relaxed and actually (in most cases) helps me jump into the book a little more. My mother thinks it’s absolutely crazy, but it’s how I work.

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
