The Sunday Salon (Oct.25)

October 25, 2009

sundaysalon3Well, looking at my list of reads for this past month, I’m disappointed to see I’ve only finished 2 books. I’ve read so many more than that! I just haven’t had the time to finish anything. :(   My own fault, of course — I took on way too many review books this month, and their blog tour dates were all in a row. So, just as I’d get started into one book, I’d have to set it aside and pick up another. Very frustrating. But… lesson learned! I have a goal to only request 2-3 books per month next year. ;)

What books have I finished? Well, the first was “Already Gone: Why Your Kids Are Leaving Church, and What You Can Do About It” by Ken Ham & Britt Beemer. The second was “Only Nuns Change Habits Overnight” by Karen Scalf Linamen.

And, I’m on track to finish one more by the end of this week … currently reading “No Idea” by Greg Garrett, and it’s really good. I might even have it finished by the end of today! :D

Coming up, I have a couple of weeks where there are NO review books due, and no blog tours scheduled. During that time, I hope to finish reading “Thirst (vol.1)” by Christopher Pike (just a few chapters left to read) so that I can count it for the R.I.P. IV challenge, and then to read “The Kommandant’s Girl” by Pam Jenoff, as it’s my face-to-face book club’s choice of the month (one that I suggested, and am very much looking forward to reading!). :D

After those are finished, I have about 5-6 reviews to do: “A Novel Idea” (written by various Christian authors on the craft of Writing), “A Hope and a Future” by Don Wilton, “GodSightings: The One Year Companion Guide“, “Can God Be Trusted?” by Father Thomas Williams, “Fit For My King” by Sheri Rose Shepherd, and “Unfaithful” by Gary & Mona Shriver.

Oh… I also have a copy of “Finding Organic Church” by Frank Viola coming to me. And, I may or may not receive a copy of Tricia Goyer’s book, “The Swiss Courier“.

SO, lots of reading coming up! But, I’m looking forward to all of it, as per usual. ;)

I recently decided, though, to take a hiatus from accepting books for review … at least for a time. I don’t do well with deadlines in December, so I won’t ask for any books then, nor will I accept any that are offered up. My brain just gets too frazzled by all of the holiday stuff, and I find myself unable to sit and finish any books. :(   But, that’s okay. I’m always ready & raring to start back up again come January! ;) My hiatus will last ’til later in the year, though (probably May 1st), because I want to catch up on other reading — book club choices, library books, stuff from my own collection… You know how books tend to call to you? Well, a lot of them have been calling me, and I keep having to put them on hold because I’m so tied up with reviewing! So, it’s time to give them the attention they deserve. :P

I don’t think I’ll completely give up reviewing for FIRST Wild Card, though. I think I’ll just cut back on how many I ask for from them, come January. I love the books they offer up, and think I’d really hate to miss out on so many of those great titles! LOL.

Happy Reading, everyone!

  1. I’m glad you’re giving your own books the attention they deserve! So many books, so little time, eh?

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
