REVIEW: “The Kommandant’s Girl” by Pam Jenoff
Pam Jenoff is a really great writer. Her stories are really involved and thought-provoking, and you can’t help but be sucked in.
This story follows Emma Bau, a Jewish girl living in Poland at the time of WWII. Her husband, Jacob, is working for the resistance, and tells her he needs to go ‘underground’ for a time. So, Emma, not knowing what to do, sets out to see her parents. But, they have been imprisoned in the ghetto. Emma lives there for a time, but then circumstances change, and she finds herself living with Jacob’s aunt, Krysia, and working for a Nazi — she wanted to help the resistance, and this is how she lands the job. But, things get more complicated than Emma had thought they would, and she has to make some tough choices.
I loved this book just as much as Pam’s other book, “The Diplomat’s Wife” (book 2). I’d stumbled across TDW last year in the bookstore, and when I read it, discovered it was the second book in this “series”. So, I made a point to seek out this one, “The Kommandant’s Girl“, and give it a try. I’m definitely not disappointed! In fact, I almost think I should go back and re-read “The Diplomat’s Wife“, now, in order to refresh my memory of what happens next. 
Best read in order, these are fantastic books, and I highly recommend them! I can’t wait to read more by this author!
