BTT: Favorite Unknown

January 21, 2010

((BTT is hosted at http://btt2.wordpress.com )).

This week’s Booking Through Thursday question asks:

Who’s your favorite author that other people are NOT reading? The one you want to evangelize for, the one you would run popularity campaigns for? The author that, so far as you’re concerned, everyone should be reading–but that nobody seems to have heard of. You know, not JK Rowling, not Jane Austen, not Hemingway–everybody’s heard of them. The author that you think should be that famous and can’t understand why they’re not…

Everyone already knows how much I love Robin Parrish’s work, and wish that more people knew about him. But, I could also shout out about Susan May Warren, and Lisa Wingate, and Rob Bell. These are all favorite authors of mine that are very little known… maybe because most of these authors are Christian authors? But, don’t let that scare you… if you don’t like Christian books, normally, you might still want to give these authors a try. They’re not your “usual”… not what you’d expect. ;)

Or, what about Gaelen Foley? She writes Regency romances, so she’s not very well-known, either. But I absolutely LOVE her work! She writes so very well, and her stories always grab me right from the very first page, and I can’t put ‘em down ’til the book is finished!

((SIDE NOTE: I don’t know why certain pictures aren’t showing up on my blog — they show up when I’m typing up my post, but when I publish them, they disappear! They’re all jpg format, so they SHOULD work! Grrr… Anyhoo. Just click the little boxes with the X’s to go to Amazon and see the covers for yourself. Sorry.))

I haven’t heard of any of these. Here is mine

  2. I also haven’t heard of any of these, but they’re going on my library scouting list :)

My favorite relatively unknown author is Brian S. Matthews. Here’s my full response.

  3. Nice picks, I’ll have to google them. My author is at The Crowded Leaf.

  4. Great tips. I really have to check out Robin Parrish and Susan May Warren’s books. They look really good.

  5. The christian fiction authors I have heard of and even read. Going to check out Gaelen Foley.

  6. Cool list. I guess I’m one of those people who would be put off by the Christian label (even though I am one!). I’ll have to check these out!

  7. I haven’t heard of any of these writers so I’ll have to go check them out. A couple of mine are more well known, but not too many talk about them or their books–Maeve Binchy, Rosamunde Pilcher, Pearl S. Buck and Tamora Pierce. I love their books–they’re the books I would grab to save in a disaster if I could. :)

  8. Wow – Great list of books! I will be opening up my TBR spreadsheet and adding some of these!

    Here are my finds.

  9. Thanks for bringing these to our attention. I have heard good things about Roses.

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
