FnFS: Anticipated Reads

January 23, 2010

((Faith ‘n Fiction Saturdays are hosted by Amy!))

This week, Amy asks:

What are some of the Christian fiction books you’re looking forward to in 2010?

The only ones I can think of, right now, are…

 Robin Parrish’s “Nightmare“:

Publication Date: July 1, 2010
Publisher: Bethany House
Description: Ghost Town is the hottest amusement park in the country, offering state-of-the-art chills and thrills involving the paranormal. The park’s main ride is a haunted mansion that promises an encounter with a real ghost. When Maia Peters visits during her senior year of college, she’s not expecting to be impressed. Maia grew up as the only child of a pair of world-renowned “ghost hunters,” so the paranormal is nothing new. In fact, the ride feels pretty boring until the very end. There, a face appears from the mist. The face of Jordin Cole, a girl who disappeared from campus a year ago. Convinced what she saw wasn’t a hoax and desperate to find answers to Jordin’s disappearance, Maia launches into a quest for answers. Joined by Jordin’s boyfriend–a pastor’s kid with very different ideas about the spirit realm–Maia finds herself in a struggle against forces she never expected to confront.

Double Trouble” by Susan May Warren

In Harm’s Way” by Irene Hannon

Publication Date: April 2010
Publisher: Revell
Description: FBI special agent Nick Bradley has seen his share of kooks during his fifteen years with the Bureau. But Rachel Sutton is an enigma. She seems normal when she shows up at the FBI office in St. Louis–until she produces a tattered Raggedy Ann doll she found and tells him she thinks something is wrong because of a strange feeling of terror it gives her when she touches it. Nick dismisses her, only to stumble across a link between the doll and an abducted child, setting in motion a chain of events that uncovers startling connections–and puts Rachel’s life on the line. Filled with palpable suspense and a touch of romance, In Harm’s Way is the final installment of the thrilling HEROES OF QUANTICO series.

Then, because I didn’t know what all was going to be published in the next little bit (I haven’t kept up as well as I should, lately!), I went on Amazon.ca and had a look… and I found some other books to look forward to! :P

Masquerade” by Nancy Moser

Publication Date: August 2010
Publisher: Bethany House
Description: Eighteen eighty-five, New York City: Charlotte Gleason, a rich heiress from London, travels to America to escape her tedious life by marrying the even wealthier Conrad Tremaine. Deciding, however, that an arranged marriage is not for her, she arranges for her maid, Maureen, to take her place. What begins as the whim of a spoiled rich girl wanting adventure becomes a test of survival amid poverty beyond Charlotte’s blackest nightmares. As for Maureen, she lives a fairy tale complete with a prince–yet tormented by a wicket mother-in-law-to-be. Will their masquerade be discovered? Or will one of them have second thoughts? There is no guarantee the switch will work. It’s a risk. It’s the chance of a lifetime.

A Tailor-Made Bride” by Karen Witemeyer

Publication Date: June 2010
Publisher: Bethany House
Description: Jericho “J.T.” Tucker wants nothing to do with Coventry, Texas’s new dressmaker. He’s all too familiar with her kind–shallow women more devoted to fashion than true beauty. Yet, except for her well-tailored clothing, this seamstress is not at all what he expected. Hannah Richards is confounded by the man who runs the livery. The unsmiling fellow riles her with his arrogant assumptions and gruff manner while at the same time stirring her heart with unexpected acts of kindness. Which side of Jericho Tucker reflects the real man? When Hannah decides to help Jericho’s sister catch a beau–leading to uproarious consequences for the whole town–will Jericho and Hannah find a way to bridge the gap between them?

The Bridegrooms” by Allison Pittman

Publication Date: April 2010
Publisher: Multnomah
Description: Tragedy hits the Allenhouse family on a hot summer night in Ohio when a mother of four vanishes. Eight-year-old Vada virtually grows up overnight and raises her three younger sisters while her father loses himself in his medical practice in the basement of their home.

Now, Vada is a grown woman, still making her home with her father and sisters. Her days are spent serving as an errand girl for Cleveland’s fledgling amateur orchestra; her evenings with Garrison Walker, her devoted, if passionless, beau.

Dizzying change occurs the day the Brooklyn Bridegrooms come to town to play the Cleveland Spiders and a line drive wallops the head of a spectator. The fan is whisked to the Allenhouse parlor, and questions swirl about the anonymous, unconscious man.

Suddenly, the subdued house is filled with visitors, from a flirtatious, would-be sports writer to the Bridegrooms’ handsome star hitter to the guilt-ridden ballplayer who should have caught the stray shot. The medical case brings Dr. Allenhouse a frustration and helplessness he hasn’t felt since his wife’s disappearance. Vada’s sisters are giddy at the bevy of possible suitors. And Vada’s life is awakened amid the super-charged atmosphere of romantic opportunity.

That’s it, for now. ;)
