FnFS: Why Read?

January 30, 2010

((Faith & Fiction Saturdays are hosted by Amy!))

This week, Amy is taking us back to basics! She asks …WHY DO YOU READ?

I read for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the pleasure I get from the activity. ;) Reading just makes me happy!

I read because…

It provides an escape. My life has always been stressful, and reading has always provided me with that little bit of relief, taking me away to a different life where things are a little easier. Sometimes, even the problems the characters face in a book are reassuring, as it reminds me that I’m not alone in my struggles.

It teaches me. I read more nonfiction than fiction any more, mostly because I can’t seem to get enough of learning! LOL. I love Christian Living titles, and Health & Fitness books. And, there’ve been many, many times where God has spoken to me through the books I’ve read — He’s made things clearer, or given me direction, or whatever. Even books that aren’t specifically “Christian” can be used by God to get the message across.

It helps me relax. There’s nothing better than curling up with a good book! :D

It connects me. Through my love of reading, I’ve gotten to join in a wonderful community of fellow book-lovers online, and face-to-face. It’s great to have books in common. Reading is such a diverse hobby… no two readers are exactly alike! There’s always something interesting to be found when you’re chatting with another reader.

And, again, reading makes me happy! Just sitting in my room, staring at my book collection, I find joy. It may sound silly, but it’s true! My passion is reading, plain & simple.

  2. great answer, we have a lot of similar answers. I love reading to escape, to learn, etc.

  3. Connections are so great! I love chatting books with fellow book lovers!

  4. You know, they a busy person gets more done! That’s great that you can find the time to read that many books and work too. I don’t work now and don’t read as much as you are able to, so the saying must be true!

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
