New Beginnings Wednesdays (Feb.17)
((For the main post about this new WEEKLY EVENT, click here)).
To remind you of the way this works, here’s how to play:
First — post your list of New Years’ Resolutions in a post at your blog (or in the comments here, if you don’t have a blog).
Second — every week, on Wednesday, write a new post about how you’re doing with each of your goals … you’ll have to list them, again, each week, as people won’t remember what you’re working towards, otherwise. Be brief in your updates, as there may be several blogs to visit! ((come give a quick update here at Should Be Reading, if you don’t have a blog)).
Third — after you’ve written your update, come back to Should Be Reading, and share your link so that we –the other New Beginnings participants– can stop by your blog and encourage you!
Important! … It would be absolutely great if you could visit at least ONE other participant’s blog on Wednesdays and leave a comment on their post to share some encouragement for their efforts! Show your support! That’s what this event is all about — standing by each other to finally reach our goals!
My New Years’ Resolutions:
1. Move more. I plan to exercise for at least 15-30 minutes, 5 days per week. I’d like to work my way up to being able to jog, 3 days per week.
I was sick for most of last week, so I didn’t end up walking (or working out) at all. I was just too weak & achey. This week, though — much as I took Monday off for Family Day — I have been back at it. I’m easing back into it slowly, but realizing that I really missed it!

2. Eat less. I plan to follow my hunger cues to eat in moderation. No more mindless munching.
This one I’m still struggling with.
3. Shrink down. I’m aiming to lose about 45 lbs.
Nothing lost, yet, pounds-wise, but I took my measurements on the weekend, and found that I’ve lost inches! Obviously, I’m building muscle (muscle weighs more than fat). Yay!

4. Read through the Bible in one year. I did this a couple of years ago, and found it really helped me to stay focused on what’s important. So, I’m trying it again.
Sticking with this goal, so far, too. I’ve read my daily allotment every day.
5. Give up pop. I have been drinking way too much Coca-Cola, and it’s not helping my health any. So, I’m giving it –and all other sodas– up for good. They are just cans of chemicals, anyway, and I definitely need to stay away from the caffeine in them. So, no more pop.
I had one pop this past Sunday. Again, I was tired and looking for the pick-me-up. I’ve got to stop making excuses on this one — I’ve got to remember WHY I want to give it up (ruins my sleep, yellows my teeth, makes me addicted, etc…)
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own NEW BEGINNINGS update, or share your progress in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks!

I cut out caffeine last December after I started having heart palpitations, so I hear you that it’s tough – there are times when all I want is a Diet Coke! Caffeine-free diet coke fills the gap, but it’s just not the same.
If what you’re craving is the soda part, and not the caffeine part, though, I’ve had good luck mixing seltzer water with fruit juice. (My current favorite is cranberry juice, limeade, and selzer.) That way, I get the carbonation and the sweet without feeling like all I’m getting is chemicals.
In any case, good luck!
Great job in keeping up with your goals. When one is sick, I do believe not exercising is reasonable.
Glad you are feeling better.
Giving up the pop…that can be tricky. I tell you, once you break yourself from this beverage you will not crave it. Matter of fact, most times when I reach for a can of pop, take a few sips I then wonder why I even bothered as it does not taste good to me anymore. Good luck to you on this one.
SO many people tell me the same thing! I can only hope to some day get to the point where I go long enough without it so as not to like the taste any more… the longest I’ve managed (in past years’ attempts) was 6 months… and even that wasn’t enough to kill my enjoyment of it.
Good job so far. I’ve been a dismal failure with all my resolutions. I gave up sodas a couple months ago. The other day went to a cub scout lunch and had a Pepsi. Craved it for several days afterwards.
