Booking Through Thursday: Break
((BTT is hosted at http://btt2.wordpress.com))
This week’s question asks:
Do you take breaks while reading a book? Or read it straight through? (And, by breaks, I don’t mean sleeping, eating and going to work; I mean putting it aside for a time while you read something else.)
No, I can’t do that. I have to stick with a book until it’s finished — at least, if I’m engrossed in it. If I’m not liking it, or if it’s not “catching” me, I’ll definitely set it aside & pick up something else. And, I may even go back to the book again, later, to give it another go. But, if I’m “into” the book, I won’t set it aside for something else.
There is one other exception, mind you: If I’m in the middle of reading a book I enjoy, but have an obligation (like a review book) that’s got a due-date fast approaching, I will set aside the current read to get to the review book, in order to finish it in time.
Those are the only times, though.

Here’s my answer
I read one book at a time and in one sitting. Here’s mine.
I will break for a tour book too.
I don’t pick up another book for a break, just rest my eyes a bit.
Unless it is a killer book. Then keep on keepin’ on!

I have to admit I read several books at a time.
Unless one is a really great book, then I go at it all the way.

I’ve taken a break 3 times.

I try to only have one read at a time, but I often have two reads going at once. There are some books I can take with me everywhere I go, so I can read them at work, in school, and so on. There are other books — massive hardcovers that don’t fit into pockets or can’t be carried around easily — that I only read at home. This week, for instance, I’m reading a small collection of essays from Martin Luther King Jr….but I’m also reading a big hardback novel (The Fellowship of the Ring).
