The Sunday Salon (Nov.21)
This past week, I started out reading “Immunity to Change” by Robert Kegan and Lisa Lahey. A good book, but it definitely requires more “brain power” than I thought it would! LOL.
I have set that book aside, though, as I got two interlibrary loans from the library: “The Practical Dreamer’s Handbook” by Paul & Sarah Edwards, and “The Renaissance Soul” by Margaret Lobenstine.
I chose to read “The Practical Dreamer’s Handbook“, first, as it’s due date is December 1st. The librarian was worried that I wouldn’t get to read it in time. I told her, “No problem! I’ll have it finished in a week!” LOL
I’m really enjoying the book, so far. But, it’s taking me a long time to read because it keeps making my imagination go off on tangents! LOL. I keep daydreaming while reading the book!
On another note…
I’m starting to think about my reading challenges for the coming year, both those I host, and those I join/take part in. I really want to cut back in 2011. I just don’t have the time that I used to to dedicate to challenges — or, at least, to the anal tracking I feel I must do when I join & host so many challenges.
My thought, right now, is that I’m only going to join in on 5 challenges, maximum, at a time. A few that I want to keep are perpetual (ongoing) so those aren’t difficult: There’s my Raved Reads challenge, and also my private challenge (one I’m doing on my own), called Stretch Yourself. And, of course, I can’t NOT join the Book-a-Week (Yahoo! group) challenge! I’ve participated in that one since 2002, and it’s like “family” to me!
Lastly, I’m still in debate over my Read’n'Review challenge… I may keep it going, I may not. I could keep it going and just not do it myself. But, I have a feeling that, if I keep it going for others, I’ll still join in. LOL.
As for those I host, I plan on only keeping a maximum of 3 or 4 challenges: The Original TBR Challenge, Raved Reads (perpetual), Live Life to the Fullest (new for 2011), and maybe –as I said– the Read’n'Review challenge.
I’m also not going to log my reads in so many places! Currently, I log my reads in about 7+ different places: my paper book journal, here at SBR (both in the sidebar, and on my 2010 Reads page), on the multiple challenge pages at my Challenged2Read blog (depending on which challenges the book fits into), on my Yearly Reads blog (both on the monthly post, and on the 2010 Reads page there), and at my two different Yahoo! groups that ask you to keep a list of the books you’ve read for the year (Book-a-Week, and 75_Books). That’s a LOT of tracking! It’s time-consuming, and it’s getting tedious. I really don’t NEED to be that anal! LOL.
So, yeah, I’m thinking of only keeping one 2011 Reads page, still updating my monthly posts at my Yearly Reads blog (but maybe only once a month, instead of each time I finish a book), and keeping the normal “running tally” in my sidebar here at SBR. I’m still not sure what to do about my Challenged2Read blog. I want to keep it as a place to log the books I read for my challenges, and with cutting back on the number of challenges I participate in, it’ll save me time in updating. But, I don’t know whether to log my books as I read them (easiest?), or to just log them at the end of each month. We’ll see, I guess.
