BTT: Annual Review

December 30, 2010

This week’s Booking Through Thursday is a review of 2010′s reading:

What’s the best book you read this year?

Worst?

Favorite?

I’m tempted to say that my ‘best’ book and my ‘favorite’ book were the same thing… but, I won’t do that — I’ll leave them separate.

So, in that case, the best book I read this year was probably “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen. I wouldn’t have picked it up if it weren’t for my face-to-face book group choosing it, and when I read it, I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed the entire story, even though I normally don’t like when a story jumps between present day and the past. This one was done really well, so I didn’t mind the flashbacks at all.

The worst book I read this year was probably “The Twilight Gospel” by Dave Roberts. But, only because it really wasn’t what I was expecting. But, I might also claim that “Bitten” by Kelly Armstrong, and “On Guard” by William Lane Craig, and “Jump” by Efrem Smith fit in this category, too. I didn’t love any of these books… either they didn’t live up to my expectations for them, or they annoyed me, or they bored me to tears.

My favorite book, this year, was “The Mailbox” by Marybeth Whalen. It was a “reunion” story — a romance — and I love those. I soaked up every page! But, I also loved “The Renaissance Soul” by Margaret Lobenstine, and “Abigail” by Jill Eileen Smith. All of these books spoke to me and moved me.

Of course, if you want, you can visit my Top 10s page on my other blog. ;)

  2. Blood Promie by Richelle Mead and The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan.

  3. I found it difficult to choose best of the best. Worst of the worst was easier. My Booking Through Thursday.

  4. I really want to read Water for Elephants. I keep considering Bitten.

My worst was Formely Hot Life which you read also.

  5. Best: The Trophy Bride’s Tale by Cyrilla Barr

Worst: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Favorite: Everyone Loves Elwood by Karen Quigley

  6. I just picked the 12 most memorable books for the year.

    Published in 2010:
Learning to Lose by David Trueba
    The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman

  7. I keep hearing good things about Water for Elephants–gonna have to add it to the TBR list.

Picking my worst was the easiest…it was much harder to narrow down the Best and Favorite. Here’s mine: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2010/12/booking-through-thursday-best-worst-of.html

  8. I didn’t care for Water for Elephants until we discussed it in book club then I saw things that were good about the book through others’ eyes. It has certainly simmered well in my memory.

    Check out my list:

  9. I have my Top Ten list on my blog. I read Water for Elephants a few years ago and loved it-the whole story, like you say, is very captivating.

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
