REVIEW: “Escaping the Vampire” by Kimberly Powers

December 30, 2010

This book bases itself off of “Twilight“, and Bella & Edward’s relationship. It explores why so many teen girls are so drawn to the story, and what they seemingly get out of it. Then it goes on to show how we can have what we long for — what these books try to promise us the hope of — if only we’ll turn to God.

Basically, every girl longs for a “hero”… some guy who’ll love her unconditionally, protect her, be attentive to her every need, and think she’s beautiful. Bella had that in Edward… and it has drawn millions of teen girls (and some older girls, I’d bet!) in, making them wish that that could be their very own story. They memorize the books, line for line, because they see in them what they crave.

But, little do they realize that they already have an “Immortal Hero” waiting in the wings to sweep them off their feet in an epic love story… He’s already died for them, even! The Bible is the greatest “Epic Love Story” of all time… and God promises to be our “Hero”, if only we’ll accept Him.

A great book for those who are fascinated with the whole “Twilight” saga, or even those just craving a deeper relationship with God.

  1. Wow! I love books like this when the author takes a secular story and turns it into a way to draw closer to God! I haven’t read Twilight or seen the movies but I have heard a lot about Edward and can definitely see why girls go gaga over him. Thanks for the insight!

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
