The Sunday Salon (Jan.23)

January 23, 2011

I’m very excited that this week is finally here. Why? Because I’ve been waiting for “The Other Life” by Ellen Meister to be published so that I can buy it from Amazon without worrying about pre-order shipping. ;) And, I’m not just buying that book… I have plans to buy a whole handful of books, as I’ve saved up my Christmas money and have been being patient (or, as patient as possible, when you’re a bookworm with money to spend on books! LOL). ;)

Here’s what I’m hoping to buy this week:

I’m still debating on the others… I’ll either get “My Dangerous Duke” by Gaelen Foley -OR- the “Made to Crave” Participants Guide by Lysa Terkeurst (to go along with the book and DVD I already have/am getting).

I’m currently reading “The Girl in the Gatehouse” by Julie Klassen, and really starting to get into it — to the point where I don’t want to put it down! I’m hoping to get in a lot of reading time, today (that is, if I don’t waste away my time on the computer, again, like I did last weekend! LOL). I’m also going to bring the book with me, tomorrow, as I have been “summoned to juror”… so I have to go to the courthouse (boo!). I really pray they don’t pick me, and that I can get out of there early… that way I can stop in at the local Chapters bookstore and spend a while browsing the shelves. ;)  Hee hee… that’ll make the day worthwhile! ;)

Much as I said I wasn’t going to do any reviews until March, I’ve slowly been adding them back in. I still have “The 1% Solution for Work and Life” by Tom Connellan waiting for me (a LibraryThing.com Early Reviewers book), and I’ve got the DVD of Lysa Terkeurst’s “Made to Crave” study coming to me for review from LitFuse Publicity (it’ll be a blog tour next month!).

Then I’ve got two other books coming up for review in February/March: Ann Tatlock’s “Promises to Keep“, and “The ME Project: 21 Days to Living the Life You Always Wanted” by Kathi Lipp.

So, I’ll be keeping busy with reading, whenever I get the chance. I’m just bummed that I haven’t yet found a workable rhythm for fitting in reading time throughout the week. Working full-time is such a change from working 3-10 hours per month! LOL. But, I am doing the best I can. I take my book with me to the arenas on Monday nights (I practically live there on Mondays, as my DD has figure skating, and then my DS has hockey practice a half-hour later), and I read every evening I have free at home.

My ladies’ Bible study group just started “Experiencing God” by Henry & Richard Blackaby & Claude King, this week, and it’s good, so far. I’m definitely learning some things. My favorite, this week, was that we should take note, in our Bible reading, of how God consistently acted… and then know that He will continue to respond in those ways to us, too.

Anyway. That’s enough for this week… Happy Reading!

  2. Hi, MizB. I’m thrilled to learn you’re excited about THE OTHER LIFE! Just want to give you a heads up (and a little apology) that my publisher moved the release date to February 17.

Hope it’s not an inconvenience, and I’d like to make it up to you by sending you a signed bookplate. If you’d like one, just send me an email at ellen (at) ellenmeister (dot) com. I’ll need to know where to mail it and who to make it out to.

Again, sorry about the date mix-up. Publishers make these decisions for reasons too mysterious to fathom …

    Happy reading!
    Ellen

  3. I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying the Girl in the Gatehouse, I have been seeing a lot of that book lately and have been wanting to hear some opinions about it!

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
