Faithful Friends (Feb.19)
This week’s FAITHFUL FRIENDS post asks…
What version of the Bible do you read/use? Why do you prefer this one over the others that are out there?
I use & prefer the New Living Translation because it’s got a more contemporary flare to it (I don’t get tripped up by a bunch of “thee’s” and “thou’s”), but it’s not so comtemporary as to make me feel like I’m reading something other than God’s Word.
I’ve tried books like The Message, but I can’t read that on a regular basis. It just feels too far from what was intended. But, that’s not to say I don’t like it — sometimes it gives a verse a new light, and that can be helpful. For example, I love how it puts Matthew 6:33…
“Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative,
God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out.
You’ll find all your everyday human concerns
will be met.” ~ Matthew 6:33, The Message
But, I can’t read the King James translation, as it’s just too … stuffy (for lack of a better term) for me. Please don’t misunderstand — I respect those who prefer that translation and can read it on a regular basis. It’s just not for me.
I also have a New International Version that I’ll turn to, sometimes. And, I have a four-translation Bible, where it compares 4 different translations side-by-side. That’s helpful when you need to be sure you’re getting the right meaning of a verse (in context).
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Faithful Friends post, or share your (brief) answer in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks!

Cute blog! Great question!
I read the NIV and the NASB, but I also like the NLT.
I memorize Scripture in the NIV because it is an easy translation to memorize, easy to read as well. I have a MacArthur Study Bible in the NASB that I love. My NIV is the NIV study Bible by Zondervan large print–easy for my eyes. The KJV is more difficult to read, but I don’t dislike it, many people believe in only reading it, I don’t feel that way.
I use th New King James version myself.
My church uses the English Standard Version. It’s pretty good too.
I personally am not the biggest fan of the NIV. I don’t think it’s the best translation.
NIV is what I typically read and use.

I really love the English Standard Version and the New American Standard Bible. Those two would probably be my favorites.
