Musing Mondays (Apr.25)

April 25, 2011

This week’s musing asks…

Do the members of your family read? Do you think it was passed down to you? ((or, if you want you can answer this: Who do you think influenced you as a reader?))

My Grandma is an avid reader, my mom reads, my Dad reads, my stepdad reads, and my sister reads… so, yeah, I’m thinking that they all influenced my reading, and that reading was definitely something that was passed down to me, in a way. Mom always encouraged reading. And, seeing her read probably got into my subconscious, too, to help me become a reader.

I think when you’re surrounded by people who spend time reading, you’ll end up subconsciously wanting to read, too. ;)

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your answer in a comment here (if you don’t have a bl0g). Thanks! :D

  1. I don’t know if I subconsciously wanted to read because they did. I think it was just more encouraged to read…

  2. I loved reading everytime (the moment we started reading at school). My dad´s reading. And because of me my sister, too.
And my reading was influenced by the library, too.
I got very early a librarycard and there opened a new world for me. I mean you can find everything in a library. Different books. everytime I spend hours there.

  3. I have always loved reading, my answer can be found here: http://annsreadingcorner.blogspot.com

  4. My answer is here

  5. This is such a great question. I haven’t participated in a while – but this question just jumped at me!

My answer can be found here.

  6. My mom likes to read True Crime. She only reads to help herself fall asleep when she goes to bed or she is taking a nap. My sister likes to read a little and she reads wierd books from authors I’ve never heard of before. No one in my family is as passionate as I am about reading.

The reading didn’t get extensive until I enter college. I was helping take care of my grandparents and I was using reading and buying books as a way to escape from the stress. Now my life isn’t as stressfull and I still have passion for reading.

  7. Neither of my parents were big readers, but they did encourage me to read.
    Full answer is posted now.

  8. proofreading, apparently doesn’t. Sigh. *definitely.

  11. Except for a few years in elementary school, when I didn’t want to read, I’ve been a reader my whole life and so is everyone in my family. It’s part of the reason I became a librarian because I wanted to share that love with others.

  12. unfortunately, none of my family members read. I am entirely alone in this area. If I ever have kids, I will pass it down to them

  13. Your whole family reads – That’s pretty cool! :)

    Here’s mine!

  14. My grandfather and mother influenced my reading. I grew up thinking that being an avid reader was normal.

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
