REVIEW: “Every Single Woman’s Battle” by Shannon Ethridge

May 24, 2011

This is a workbook designed for use with Shannon’s other book, “Every Woman’s Battle“. It contains excerpts from both that book, and “Every Man’s Battle” (written by Stephen Arterburn).

While you can use this book for personal study, it’s also set up for use in group discussions. If using it in a group setting, you can study for either 8 or 12 weeks, depending on how you set things up.

Each chapter features the following:

• excerpts from the other books
• “Planting Good Seeds” ~ questions that help you seek God’s truth for you, personally
• “Weeding Out Deception” ~ questions that help you discern truth from the lies that the world perpetuates regarding sexuality
• “Harvesting Fulfillment” ~ questions to help you apply what you’re learning
• “Growing Together” ~ small group discussion questions

One of the things I found most interesting ~ something I learned from this book ~ is that an affair doesn’t have to be physical. Women who are seeking emotional comfort from any man other than their spouse are also guilty of having an affair… an emotional affair.

Chapter titles include:

Whose Battle Is It?
• Finding Truth
• Taking Thoughts Captive
• Guarding Your Heart
• Being Aware
• Surrendering
• Cultivating True Intimacy
• Retreating With the Lord

My favorite chapters included “Whose Battle Is It?” and “Being Aware“.

I think that this is a great little workbook, and I definitely recommend it, along with the book, “Every Woman’s Battle“, to any woman… single or married! No one is immune to the lures of the flesh. These books ‘arm’ you to know where the boundaries lie, and to help you walk in purity.

People think a soul mate is your perfect fir, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake!
