Booking Through Thursday: Rut (May 26)
This week’s Booking Through Thursday question asks…
Do you ever feel like you’re in a reading rut? That you don’t read enough variety? That you need to branch out, spread your literary wings and explore other genres, flavors, styles?
I quite frequently feel that way, actually! I tend to stick with my favorite genres ~ YA fantasy/romance, business nonfiction, health & fitness, Christian Living ~ rather than branching out to try new things. I guess I just feel most comfortable sticking with what I know I’ll like, rather than taking a chance on something that might make me feel I’ve wasted my (precious) reading time.
But, that’s not to say that I don’t often wish I had more variety in my reading tastes. I wish I’d already read most of the Classics and most of the ‘raved about’ reads that are out there. That way, when someone asks if I’ve read so-and-so, or such-and-such, I could say, “Why, yes! Let’s discuss!” LOL
Every now & then I’ll get brave enough to branch out and try something outside of my reading ‘comfort zone’. And, sometimes I pleasantly surprised!
But, I always fall back to what I know and love. I just can’t seem to help myself.

Good answer.

Sometimes variety helps.

I used to read a variety of books. I read the book if the synopsis sounded good. But then I got sucked in the YA world and now that’s all I basically read.
I’ll read all sorts of genres but what’s really awful is being in a rut of reading in general. Sigh!
I always have good intentions when it comes to branching out – I mean I buy different books but then I tend to read others that I know I’ll like.

I try to mix up my reading but it’s too easy to get stuck reading the same kind of thing. You can see my full answer on my blog.
