The Sunday Salon (May 29)
Well, I was in a bit of a reading slump for the last few days — but, I went to the local library, Friday, and just browsed the shelves until I found a couple of books that looked good. I brought home “Mistress of Rome” by Kate Quinn, and “Burning Lamp” by Amanda Quick.
I’m reading “Mistress of Rome” now, and can’t put it down! Fabulous book!
Last weekend turned out to be awesome… here’s why I didn’t post:
My sister and her husband have recently started up their own business selling coffee out of a cart at a local (for them) weekend market. Last Sunday, hubby & kids and I went to visit so that we could check this new business out! And, before we went, my sister was kind enough to inform me that this market has not one, but TWO used-book stalls that take trade-ins.
So, I –of course– brought a bag of books to trade for credit! (and, since my Dad was going with us, and I told him about this plan to trade books, he gave me another bag-full to take and trade… books he was done reading and didn’t want to keep!) So, there I was with two bags of books to trade for credit!
After checking out my sister’s new business, and enjoying a delicious hot-chocolate (toasted-marshmallow flavor!), I went to check out the book stalls.
At the first one, the lady had more used books than I’d ever seen in one place before! I was in absolute book heaven! LOL. While she tallied up my trade-ins, I browsed, and chose a couple of books. And, when I went to ask her how much credit I’d earned myself, I pert-near fell over! I was expecting in the range of $20… turns out I got myself $100 in credit!!! WHOOHOOO!!!
So, back into the rows of books I went, and I chose another bag-full of books! LOL And, my total only came to $90-something! LOL. So, I left the last $10 credit for my Dad to use whenever he was able to get back there, and off I went (we only had a limited amount of time to spend at the market that day).
I checked out the other book stall, too, and traded 3 of the 7 books that the first woman couldn’t take, and earned myself another $10 credit. But I only had time to pick out 1 book (chose one for my son). So, I left the rest of that credit for my sister.
((why am I giving away my credits, you ask? Because, in case you missed it, this market wasn’t local to me… it’s a distance away from us; we were visiting my Dad for the weekend, and sister lives near Dad))
Anyway. I’m sure you want to know which books I chose from the first book stall… so let me share!
“Library of the Dead” by Glenn Cooper
“Happily Ever After” by Susan May Warren
“The Stranger House” by Reginald Hill
“The Queen’s Fool” by Philippa Gregory
“Love the One You’re With” by Emily Giffin
“Something Blue” by Emily Giffin (got 2 copies of this — one for my little sis)
“A Hellion In Her Bed” by Sabrina Jeffries
“Stargazer” by Claudia Gray
“The Rose Conspiracy” by Craig Parshall
“Baby Proof” by Emily Giffin (also for my little sis)
As you can see, I chose 2 books to give to my little sister (not the one that started the coffee business — my other little sister).
The first 4 books on the list are ones I’ve had on my wishlist for ages! I’ve already read “Happily Ever After” and “The Queen’s Fool“, but I had loved them so much that I’d added them to my wishlist after reading them. Now I own them, so I can reread them whenever I want!
Out of the books my Dad gave me to trade, I chose to keep one — “The Book of Fate” by Brad Meltzer. It’s one I’ve wanted to read for a while.
And, like I said, at the second used-book stall, I picked up a book for my son ~ “Fire Star” by Chris D’Lacey.
So, yeah… it was an awesome weekend (visiting with my Dad & family was fun, too! LOL), and I’m quite happy with all of my new books.

I am jealous!! I wish there was something like that here.
Books are great no matter what but especially great when you get a deal on them. Looks like some great books you found there!!!
I love your books and the reviews.
thank you!
I’m jealous! I went to my local used book store with two bags of books, some of which were books I know would sell well, and the guy acts like he doesn’t want my books and only gave me a fifteen dollar credit! I guess somethings better than nothing but he could have at least acted like he wanted my books! Alright, rant over.
I love Emily Giffin books and I hope you enjoy them. I also love Brad Meltzer. Happy reading!
