REVIEW: “The Idiot Factor” by Larry Winget
If you don’t like a confrontational style, you wouldn’t like this book. Larry is very straight-forward, and he tells it like it is. Personally, I can take it. The only part that rubbed me a little rough was where he was talking about fashion advice for bigger folk — he used terms that I find offensive.
Otherwise, though, I think the book is fantastic, and highly recommend it.
He touches on topics like friends, money, weight/health, business/career, and parenting. He doesn’t really say much that is “new”, but as he said in the beginning of the book, not many other books do, either — they all try to tell you that their stuff is “new”, when really it’s all just the same stuff, over again.
This book’s basic premise is that you need to take action. It’s wonderful to know what to do, and make plans to do it. But, if you don’t put those plans into action, nothing will change. Throughout the book, Larry asks you to list this, that, and the other thing related to what he’s touched on in the chapters. For example, there’s the “I’m Ignorant About” list, the “I’m Stupid” list, and the “I’ve Been Lazy About” list… also, the “What I Expect From Myself“, “My Plan for My Life“, and “Why It’ll Benefit Me to Take More Responsibility In My Life” lists. In short, this book is a workbook, helping you to put into action those things you’ve been putting off… actually MAKING the changes, instead of just wishing for them in your life.
I definitely recommend this book, and am going off to search out some of Larry’s other works (I know my local library has a few others, too!)
Rated: B+
