REVIEW: “One Day” by David Nicholls
This book was slower-paced than I’d expected it to be. But, that’s okay, because I still really enjoyed it.
Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew meet up at the end of their University years, and then we see snapshots of them on the same day — July 15th — every year for the next 20 years. Their paths cross and don’t, and their lives both change for better & for worse.
I loved this story — even though Dexter quite frequently made me mad! — all the way up until about chapter 18. Then I was frustrated, but I kept on reading. I think that part that frustrated me kind of ruined the book for me a bit … I think I would’ve liked it better, otherwise. But such is the way things go, I guess.
Overall, I’d still recommend it.

Oh, I know! SO many points (like at the restaurant) where i wanted to smack him!!
I’ve been seeing several books lately that use this type of format. I recently finished a YA book called The 10 p.m. Question in which each chapter was the main character’s day every other Tuesday. I also recently read The Amateur Marriage in which we see snapshots of a couple throughout their lives, but not on a specific day like in this book. Sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I like how you wrote this review with an eye to your feelings but without spoilers!
Well, it sounds interesting but I hate when a character ruins the whole book!
No, I didn’t mean that the character ruined the book. Dex was annoying at times, but he didn’t ruin things for me.

I just won this book on Twitter recently so I’m definitely reading it!
Interesting premise!
