REVIEW: “EAT: The Effortless Weight Loss Solution” by Ian K. Smith, M.D.

July 23, 2011

I really enjoyed this book. It’s not a “diet” book; it just gives you simple ways to eat healthier. Suggestions include eating the “rainbow” (more fruits and vegetables in a variety of colors), getting more fiber and protein, choosing the right carbohydrates, and watching your portion sizes.

Best chapter, in my opinion, was the one on snacking, as it talks about how snacking is not necessarily bad… if done properly. Snacking should be “strategic” ~ you use it to get you through from one meal to the next, without ever becoming too hungry. And, snacks should be only 150-200 calories each, thereby not filling you, but just taking the edge off your hunger pangs.

Overall, this is a very sensible and flexible book, and I’d highly recommend it.
