The Sunday Salon (Aug.28)

August 28, 2011

I didn’t do a lot of reading this past week. I just was too tired when I got home from work, and found myself distracted by housework and the computer, too. So, I’m trying to make up for it, this weekend. ;)

Yesterday, I tried to finish “Sifted” by Rick Lawrence, but much as I tried, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. So, I skimmed the last few chapters, wrote my review, and then set it aside.

Then I picked up my eBook copy of “{W}hole” by Lisa Whittle, and read through the entire book by the end of the day. It was good, and I’d recommend it. You can see my review in the previous post, here on my blog.

Today I’m hoping to read through “Bad Boys Do” by Victoria Dahl — another eBook. If I can finish that, too, I’ll be feeling better about my progress through my review books.

Unfortunately, I’ve overcommitted myself, again — requesting more review books than I realistically have time to read — so I’m feeling overwhelmed. But, I’m slowly making my way through them. I will keep reading until I get through all of the ones I have currently in my queue, and then I’m going to take a break from reviewing for a while… especially during the Christmas season — I just can’t focus well enough then to read & review anything. I can read, but I just can’t review anything. I don’t need deadlines at that time of year, what with all the other festivities. ;)

Much as I have a lot of review books in my queue (probably had 9 to begin with), I couldn’t help asking for two more that came up this past week… both are Bible studies, so I figure they won’t be too difficult to review. I won’t have to read through the whole study in order to get the gist of things, so I think I’ll be okay. Besides, the one study was one I’d already had on my wishlist / to-be-read list, and I was sooo excited to see it come up for review! The study is Carla McDougal’s “Reflecting Him“. Here’s the description (from GoodReads.com):

 ”Reflecting Him” by Carla McDougal
Life is not about me, but all about Him.

Do you have trouble remembering this throughout your day? Do you see Jesus in your everyday activities, or do you just call on Him in an emergency?

God wants to be part of your life twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This ten-week women’s Bible study encourages you to see His life lessons throughout your day. A detailed look at a potter and his wheel gives you new insights to the creation of man. Physical workouts can be compared to your spiritual growth and prayer life. Open your eyes to see how God uses daily mundane experiences to teach you spiritual truths.

The more you ask the Holy Spirit to reveal comparisons like these, the easier it is to recognize God’s hand on your life. This study is designed to motivate and inspire you to make Jesus a part of everything you do. Before you know it you will be Reflecting Him in ways you never dreamed possible.

The other study I’m excited to get the chance to preview is this…

STUCK” by Jennie Allen

Description: We are often so stuck in invisible struggles in our hearts and minds, we barely have space for God.These deep struggles, these stuck places, are familiar to every one of us: brokenness, anger, discontentment, fear, and sadness. Stuck takes on these struggles within us so that we can encounter God. Because until we recognize that we are stuck and in need of God, we will miss what He has for us.

I’m really looking forward to these. :D

I’m also really excited about Katrina’s upcoming annual reading challenge: the 2011 Fall Into Reading challenge. I’ve already made up the list of books I’m going to choose from for the challenge. Katrina’s challenges are fun because there isn’t a lot of pressure… and I always end up reading through some books that I’d been hoping to get to.
