The Sunday Salon (Oct.23)

October 23, 2011

You know, much as working full-time really sucks all of the life right out of me, and makes me wish to go back to the simpler days of years’ past, I do really like the fact that we now have money coming in. With hubby working overtime most days, and myself working full-time, we now have some extra money kicking around to actually get some things we’ve put off for a while… and to get some “frivolous” things… like books! :D

This week, I ordered a few more books from Amazon, and I cannot wait ’til they get here! Three of them are already on their way, and the other two are coming a bit later. Here’s what I got:

Coming first…
• “Reshaping It All” by Candace Cameron Bure
• “Creative Girl” by Katharine Sise
• “Stay With Me” by Paul Griffin

Coming later…
• “Lifestyle ChoicesUp to YOU!” by Ginger Woods O’Shea
• “Creativity” by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

Yay for new books! :D

I am also excited by the fact that, after going for about 10 years without one, I’ll finally get to buy a new mop! LOL. Yes, I’m excited to get a mop. How sad is that?! LOL. I’m planning to go out and get the Rubbermaid Reveal mop kit, this weekend. I had originally wanted a “Swiffer WetJet“, but hubby refused to “throw away money” by having to constantly buy replacement pads & cleaning solution for it. So, now there’s the “Rubbermaid Reveal” mop that has washable pads, and a bottle that you add your own solution to! Cheaper, and definitely still convenient. ;)

Apparently, small things amuse me, ’cause I’m also excited by the fact that I’m going to be getting a new pair of glasses! I work for an eye doctor’s office, now, and will be getting a good “employee discount”, so I’m getting these really cute Ellen Tracy “Levana” glasses (click the pictures to enlarge)

… only problem is, I can’t decide whether I want them in blue, or brown! They have the exact same design on both pairs, but the color has me stumped. So, I’m waiting for the brown pair to arrive so that I can compare, and see which ones I like better on myself.

Anyhoo. Back to books… I am currently reading Ted Dekker & Tosca Lee’s “Forbidden” (The Book of Mortals, book 1), and it’s really, really good! I’m having a really hard time putting it down! It’s one of those books that makes me want to stay up late at night, reading it, even though I know that, if I do, I’ll be a zombie at work the next day. LOL. Definitely recommend that you seek it out. My blogging friend, Amy, called it somewhat “dystopian“, but since I don’t know what that really describes, I’ll just tell you that I think it’s somewhat dark, but there’s a romance brewing, and some “edginess” to it that really has me enthralled. ;)

Lastly, let me tell you that I’m thrilled to have gotten my copy of “Beautiful Outlaw” by John Eldredge in the mail, Friday! It was part of the last group of books that I’d ordered from Amazon, and I had to wait & wait for it to arrive, as the publication date hadn’t yet passed (this was a pre-order). But it’s finally here!

I had read this one a short while back — a NetGalley eBook — for review, and loved it so very much! But, my NetGalley review books expire after 55 days, so I decided that I’d order a print copy of this one to keep. I am almost tempted to re-read it right away, in fact… it was that good! It gave me a totally new perspective on the character of Jesus… made the Bible’s story of His time here on earth more “human” and relatable. If you’ve ever had trouble reading the Bible — have seen it as just some old “history book” — I highly recommend that you read this! ;)

  2. • “Reshaping It All” by Candace Cameron Bure
    • “Lifestyle Choices…Up to YOU!” by Ginger Woods O’Shea
    • “Creativity” by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
I am going to add these to my to be read List. I went to the resale store and got .88 cent books 7 were from Author Ann Rice….Love her and collecting her books. Since we are moving again this year in about a week, we found sure finds for the new house. I am out of work right now, but looking and I hear ya, when I work I wish for those simple days…but the extra cash does come in handy! Bless you my friend, ~Jackie~

  3. I would be excited about a mop, or in my case a vacuum since mine makes a wierd burning smell, but has been cleaned and repaired so many times its hard to count! However, its about 13 years old, so I think I’ve gotten my monies worth!

I tried to get a book on ebay this weekend and lost it to a sniper, so I think I am going to start getting my used books from amazon too :) Does your library have book sales? I just picked up a ton of books yesterday for $7, I was so excited.

Great post, have a wonderful week ahead!!

Oh, and I would totally say the blue glasses! :)

    • Liz — My vacuum is about that old, too, and has a hole in the bottom, so I currently can’t use it. Another reason why I was excited about my new mop (especially since most of my floors are hardwood). ;)

And, yes, my local library has book sales, and our’s was yesterday, too… but I didn’t go this year. With working full-time, I just wanted to sleep! LOL. :P

  4. You just reminded me that I really need to get to the eye doctor! Haven’t had an exam or eye glass change in a few years!

  5. I’m due for an eye exam and new glasses. I like the Ellen Tracys – the brown would be my choice for me. Let us know how you like the new mop ;) I totally get why you’re excited about it, by the way.

  6. I have that mop and love it! I have been using vinegar and water in the bottle which really makes it cost effective! The pad washes up nice too!

Oh, I loved Forbidden! Can’t wait for the next two books in the series. I think you’re friend’s description of “dystopian” is pretty accurate, if I’m taking it the way she meant it.

As for glasses… I used to get excited over new glasses too, but I don’t need them anymore. I had Lasik in 2007 and it was SO worth the money! I walked out of that surgery able to see. It was wonderful!

    • I barely need glasses any more, really… truth is, I just thought they’re cute! LOL. So, since I get the employee discount, I’m getting a pair! Mind you, I do get headaches when watching movies/TV, and I have trouble seeing at night, so I think the glasses might come in handy with those things. Time will tell. ;)

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
