2012 Reading Goals
Being that this year is almost over, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to my goals for next year — including my reading goals.
I’ve found that, over the past several years — and this last year, especially, since starting to work full-time outside the home — my reading priorities have changed. Where I used to be really interested in online book groups and reading challenges, I now find myself pulling away from those things. I just don’t have the time that I used to to devote to those things any more.
I’m thinking of not joining any reading challenges next year. And, I may not host any, either (I’m still deciding whether/not I want to hand over the reins of my TBR Challenge to someone who has more time and interest than I do).
I’ve definitely decided that I need to cut down on the number of places where I log my finished books (currently at 6+ places!)
I will continue to log my books read at my Yearly Reads blog, as that is its whole purpose for existence… but, then there really is no reason to duplicate that info here at SBR. So, I’ll probably just provide a link here, and have that be enough.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m already cutting back on reviewing. My annual winter hiatus (November – February) is being extended this time around. I may accept a book or two for review, here and there, but for the most part I am taking a break from “obligatory” reading and just reading whatever I’m in the mood for at the moment. Already it feels so freeing!
So, yeah… Next year, I’ll be cutting back in several areas in regards to my reading. But not to worry… I’ll still be doing my daily memes, here at Should Be Reading.

enjoy reading 4 fun
Thanks!
ditto to the commenter above who said enjoy reading for fun. I was just thinking this week that I would like to spend more time thinking about a book after I’ve read it and not be in a rush to read the next one on my shelf – I think that’s one of the negative effects of trying to read xx books for the year.
I have been thinking of the same thing. I no longer want to write just reviews which usually end up saying the same as everyone else. I like your idea of just listing the books you read each week/month and playing memes. Writing reviews have become a chore not a joy. So will be a few changes at my blog next year too. Less chore, more fun. I want to bring back the joy again.
I want to bring back the joy again.
Exactly!
Sounds peaceful
I tried to cut back but missed it so much I jumped back in but I don’t have an outside job or small children to concentrate on.
I love your posts/memes and a link instead of a duplicate post is perfectly acceptable.
This year I have only joined two challenges. In the beginning of the year it seems like so much fun to join challenges, but, until the end of the year, it becomes tiring.
Enjoy your Happy Reading this year.
