Musing Mondays (Jan.16)

January 16, 2012

This week’s musing asks…

What devices –if any– do you read books on? Do you find it enjoyable, or still somewhat bothersome? Or: If you only read the print books, why haven’t you chosen to read on any devices?

I have a Kobo eReader, and occasionally read books on there. But, I still prefer my print books over the eBooks. I just don’t like that you can’t easily find a passage that had jumped out at you, or anything like that. And the lag between page-turns is somewhat annoying, too.

I have tried reading on my computer, but that gives me a headache. So, I usually try to avoid this.

And, I’m thinking of getting an iPod Touch, and have put several eBooks on my wishlist for that device. But, I’m not sure if I’d enjoy reading books on there — the screen seems awfully small. I might put a few books on it, just to have something with me if ever I found myself stuck waiting, somewhere, and hadn’t brought my (print) book. ;)

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your answer in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks! :D

  1. I can understand your sentiments about e-books as well.

    Here is my Musing Mondays.

  2. I had a Sony e-Reader and the lag irritated the hell out of me. Now I have a Kindle and love it, though it isn’t quite the same as reading a paperback.

  4. I don’t think I’ll ever prefer any way of reading over a book.

  8. Note to nazish0151: I can’t comment on your post because I don’t have a WordPress, Facebook or Twitter account and it appears you have no other options. I’m sorry :-(

  9. I think I’m slightly more inclined towards the physical book, as I work in a bookshop (and have a lifetime obsession with books anyway), but I do love my Kindle all the same. I think a balance between the two is nice.

I mainly read print books.I’ve tried reading on my laptop but am not really comfortable with it.
I don’t like the idea of something being just 0′s and 1′s . A little extra info from author David Farland :” Daily Kick–A Visionary Dream of the Future of Books” 30/09/2010.
“In the past couple of weeks, judges have ruled that “electronic publication” of a book is not publication, since it doesn’t create a physical book. This means that publishers cannot pay a “royalty” on electronic books, but instead have to pay a licensing fee for the use of electronic rights. The publisher might buy a license for the electronic files–which can then be printed out by the end-user, but that won’t be considered in the same category as “publishing” the book as a traditional paper book.”

The Kindle em, not right now .I read a review on CNET, that was on the perils of being an early adopter . If technology changes as it tends to rather rapidly you could be stuck with an expensive paper weight! Anyone remember the 8 Track?? lol

  21. I do find that it’s more difficult to navigate back and forth to find something…and sometimes I am thinking: now who is this character? But it’s difficult to go back and forth.

    But here’s what I wrote: http://rainysnowday.wordpress.com/2012/01/16/monday-potpourri-musings-jan-16/

  22. Great question!

My Nook doesn’t have a lag, but it is back-lit… which might cause headaches. I don’t ever get one from it, although I do some from the computer, so that’s weird.

I love being able to read in the dark, tho… it’s so quiet before the kids get up, I like tip-toeing to the couch to wake up my way!! :-)

I forgot to add that to my Musings: http://burgandyice.blogspot.com/2012/01/musing-mondays-ereaders.html

  23. Reading books on the computer is a huge pain!
But reading on my Kindle Fire is a joy :)

    Here’s my MM

I got a iPod Touch for my B’Day. You are absolutely right, the screen is too small. Fortunately last Christmas me and my best friend surprised each other with a 3G Kindle and we LOVE it and we can share books by linking the accounts. This Xmas we surprised each other again with iPad2 with Wi Fi. Reading our Kindle books on it is much better and easier. I am a Women’s Murder Club fan and also like John Grisham’s series. I’m not a big reader like most of you here but enjoying reading! I still read paperback and only paperback for Women’ Murder Club series. I like the smell of the print and collecting books. One day I will join in a book club, too! Happy belated Blue Monday!

  31. I have a Kindle that I love!

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
