Musing Mondays (Feb.20)

February 20, 2012

(Happy Family Day, to anyone celebrating!)

This week’s musing asks… What is the last book that you learned something from? What book was it, and what did it teach you?

I am currently reading “JavaScript: A Beginner’s Guide” by John Pollock, so I’ve learned how to add JavaScipt code to an HTML file, and I’ve learned that “JavaScipt” and “Java” are two different things! (I’ve often said “Java” as a short-form, meaning “JavaScript” — now I know better! LOL).

I also learned, recently, that businesses have been realizing that they need design in order to do better marketing; that they are leaning toward more right-brained things (beauty, music, empathy, etc) for doing business, rather than the “old” model of just thinking logically, and analyzing things, etc (left-brained stuff). That was learned from “A Whole New Mind” by Daniel H. Pink, which I’m also reading.

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your answer in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks! :D

  1. The first one seems interesting, even though I already know a lot about JavaScript.

  2. You learned some really great things… I totally agree about the businesses needing design SOOO badly. I am starving to learn some myself!!!

  5. If I didn’t have so many requested reviews, I really should read some computer how to books since I am so challenged when it comes to computers. My MM is here.

    • Hey, you can still “learn” from fiction! I certainly have in the past!

  10. Potentially deep discussion question. I’m sick so my answer is three sheets of paper deep, maximum. ; )

    Happy Monday!

  11. I took this as an opportunity to recommend a book I think everyone should read!

    My Musing.

  12. I don’t typically read books where I learn stuff – isn’t that awful – but I’ve got one for this week that I’m excited to blab about.

  13. From “Front and Center” by Catherine Gilbert Murdock I learned that there are positions in basketball and the most important is point guard who calls the plays.

  14. Although I agree with people who have said that you can learn from all sorts of books, I had a particularly easy time answering this because I do read a lot non-fiction :) http://doingdeweydecimal.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/monday-musings-2/

  15. Time to read does not come easy. The days are so busy. Now that the house is quiet I sit with my book in one hand and a mug of tea in the other. Does it get any better than this? I think not.

Please be patient if your comment doesn't show up right away... I will 'release' it as soon as I can. Thanks for your thoughts! ~MizB
