The Sunday Salon (Feb.26)
This week has been a good week, reading-wise. I was reading 3-5 books, and have finished off three of them in the last few days, so that’s got me feeling better.
I put up reviews for the ones I’ve finished: “Say ‘Yes, And!’” by Avish Parashar | “Be Fearless” by Jonathan Alpert | and “Wither” by Lauren DeStefano — in case you wish to read what I thought of them.
I’ve now picked up “Successful Women Think Differently” by Valorie Burton. It’s a review book that has a deadline of March 9th, so I figured I’d try to get it read this week, if not even just today. It’s not a long book.
Then I have several library books to get to: “The Eternal Ones” by Kirsten Miller | “Made to Stick” by Chip Heath & Dan Heath | “Quiet” by Susan Cain | and “Free Agent Nation” by Daniel H. Pink. That last one is an interlibrary loan, so I’ll probably have to read it first, before the others, as I won’t be able to renew it.
I’m very excited… I bought 5 books, this past week! I mentioned, in last week’s SS post, that I am trying to become a self-taught graphic & web designer. Well, I decided to buy myself some books on the topic. So, here’s what I bought:
“Head First: HTML with CSS & XHTML” by Elisabeth Robson & Eric Freeman
“PHP & MySQL for Dummies” by Janet Valade
“JavaScript: A Beginner’s Guide” by John Pollock
“Before & After: How to Design Cool Stuff” by John McWade
Yes, the JavaScript one is the same book I had been reading via the local library — I thought it was too heady for just a 3-week read, so I bought my own copy and can now take all the time I need to read through it! And that last one — “How to Design Cool Stuff” — is a really neat book! It’s got a lot of the articles from the Before & After magazine’s website inside… an extremely useful reference! I think I’m going to learn a lot from that one!
And, yes… that’s only 4 books, and I said I bought 5. The other one I bought is an eBook copy of Jennifer Smith’s “The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight“. I really wanted to read this one! I’d originally put the paperback copy with my Amazon order, even though it wasn’t going to be published ’til June (I pre-ordered it). But, when I found out I could get an eBook copy for a dollar cheaper and get it now, I decided it was worth it. So I cancelled out the pre-order, and bought the eBook copy instead.
I love getting new books!
Of course, now I’m broke, so I won’t be buying more books for a while. LOL. But, that’s okay. I’m also halfway to having enough money to buy my laptop, so that’s exciting, too! I can’t wait!
Have a good week, everyone! Here’s to lots of reading time!

I’ve been thinking about reading The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, can’t wait to read your review!
You did great last week! I hope this is a good week too.
