Musing Mondays (June 4)

This week’s musing asks…

Do you have a reading goal for the year, such as __ books? Why or why not?

I usually try to read at least 52 books per year — a book-a-week. From 2002 on, I belonged to a Yahoo! group called “Book-a-Week“, where the main goal was to read 52 books a year. We kept a reading log (and/or book journal), and we let the group know every time we finished a book. Those who met the goal used to get a bookmark from a fellow group member who had also reached their 52-book goal.

So, that has stuck with me, and every year since, I have aimed to read 52 books/year. Mind you, nowadays, that isn’t hard. Now I read approximately 70-80 books per year, so it’s fairly easy to hit 52 — heck, for this year, I’ve already read 40 books, and it’s only June! 😛

Either way, I don’t participate in the BaW group much, any more. But, I still do aim for that number, and I still keep a book journal of what I’ve read. I will probably always do the book journal thing, at the very least, as it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for my reading.

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Musing Mondays post, or share your answer in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks! 😀

  1. After hitting the low 90s for a few years, in 2011 my goal was to get to 100. And I made it with 114 new books and about 20 re-reads. This year I’m reading longer stuff so my goal is 52 and I’m already up to 26 with about 4 re-reads.
